The main goals of physiotherapy are to reduce pain, improve mobility, restore functional abilities and to prevent the onset of further dysfunction or disability. Through a series of therapy programs and prescription exercises, physiotherapists are able to help achieve long term results and ultimately a healthy lifestyle!

It is important to seek physiotherapy quickly after an injury or a disorder as results improve with early intervention.

There are many reasons to consider massage therapy as a component of your holistic wellness plan. Massage can have both immediate and long term benefits for many individuals including: athletes, office workers, pregnant women and those suffering from stress. Massage therapy is also shown to have notable benefits in patients who just had surgery, who are recovering from burns, or who are suffering from musculoskeletal conditions.

Massage therapy has been proven in a number of research studies to; decrease heart rate, reduce blood pressure, enhance circulation, relax muscles, improve flexibility, promote better movement of joints, and produce beneficial endorphins.


Pedorthist

Dr. Erin Cecchetto grew up nearby in Brooklyn, NS. Growing up playing a wide variety of sports including soccer, hockey, and equestrian riding, this experience competing in competitive sports led to her special interest in treating and preventing injuries and getting people back to moving their best.

Dr. Erin completed her undergraduate degree at Mount Allison University with a B.Sc, where she played on the Women’s Varsity Soccer team and was a student athletic therapist with the women’s basketball and hockey team. This experience led her to pursue and complete a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.

Dr. Erin uses a variety of techniques in her practice including movement assessment, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, soft tissue therapy and exercise rehabilitation. Each treatment is tailored to her client’s specific needs and goals and is designed to give them the tools to maintain their results on their own long term.

In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, running, riding her horses, and hanging out with her dog Millie.

Katie graduated from ICT Northumberland College in 2004 and has been actively involved in massage therapy, health, and fitness since then.

She holds many certifications for massage therapy, including deep tissue, myofascial release, cupping, as well as special training to assist clients living with cancer.

She is a member of the Nova Scotia Fitness Association as a group fitness leader and hopes to pursue certification in personal training. As a certified Bellyfit instructor Katie has taught women’s fitness classes since 2013.

Bernadette was born and raised in Sheet Harbour Nova Scotia. She graduated from ICT Northumberland with Honours in 2000 and has worked in a variety of clinical settings ever since. Currently, Bernadette lives in Stewiacke.

Trini graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy (CCMH) in 2006,after successfully completing the 2200 hour Massage Therapy program. During her studies, Trini specialized in Sports Therapy, and continued her education to obtain additional certifications in Deep Tissue Therapy, Myofascial Release, Cupping, Stretch to win, and CanFit Pro personal training.

Trini works with her clients to offer treatment plans that are respectful of individual patient preferences, needs, and comfort levels. She strives to inspire trust, build confidence and provide a safe space while focusing on supportive healing.

Jana is originally from Manila, Philippines and joined the PROTx team in 2024. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Santo Tomas in 2021 and is particularly interested in manual therapy techniques. Jana has spent the last several years achieving the many requirements to come practice in Canada.

Sidney is from just outside of Halifax and graduated with her Massage Therapy Diploma from Eastern College in Halifax.

Sidney has a particular interest in General Swedish Massage techniques, hydrotherapy for therapeutic and relaxation massages along with deep tissue, trigger point therapy, lymphatic drainage, passive stretching and fascial work. She has treated a broad range of clients including those with MS, Fibromyalgia, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, strains, sprains, arthritis, frozen shoulder, headaches and much more. Carol Ann Sweeney graduated from The University of Guelph in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics. This degree provided her with the knowledge to pursue her certification as Pedorthic Technician in 2002 and a Canadian Certified Pedorthist in 2007. A Pedorthist is trained in the assessment, design, manufacture, fit and modification of foot appliances and footwear. The objective is to alleviate pain and provide assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limb. She has worked for numerous orthotic companies across Canada and in the province.

Carol Ann is the owner of Fit Right Orthotics which has a manufacturing lab in Porters Lake, Nova Scotia. All orthotics are manufactured and adjusted locally which enables Carol Ann to have full control of the custom orthotic process, guaranteeing a superb product.

Carol Ann prides herself on her outstanding customer service and looks forward to providing services at our numerous clinics we have partnered with. She has worked with a full range of clients including children, adults, athletes and the elderly. She has manufactured and fitted orthotics for skates, ski boots and cleats allowing athletes to compete and train in complete comfort.

Emma graduated from Dalhousie University in 2016 with her Masters in Physiotherapy. She previously received her undergraduate degree, also from Dalhousie, with a double major in microbiology and immunology. Emma obtained her Advanced Diploma in manual and manipulative therapy in 2024 making her a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Therapists (FCAMPT)

Emma is certified in Acupuncture (CAFCI) and functional dry needling as well.

Emma was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and grew up in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates before moving to Halifax in 2002.

Outside of work, Emma loves gardening, hiking, road biking, skating. She plays ringette and has previously participated in speed skating.
