Julie assesses and treats using a manual therapy hands-on approach combined with her knowledge of functional movement. Clients can expect treatment sessions to be 30-45min, which are typically a combination of manual therapy, functional movement education, exercise progression, education, and modalities (including Dry Needling & Laser therapy). Her goal with treatment is not only to offer pain relief but to also help her clients return to any activities in daily life that their injury/pain has affected. Julie’s goal is for each of her clients to return to their lives empowered with knowledge and with greater physical capability than before they were injured.

Currently, Julie is taking additional courses on the area of pelvic health on the topics of Cesarean Birth & Rehabilitation, and Non-Internal Pelvic Health. Julie’s interest on the connection between pelvic pain/dysfunction and musculoskeletal conditions has increased over the last few years, especially with so many women not receiving sufficient rehabilitation nor physical education after having children. While not wishing to offer internal therapy, she really wants to address and incorporate pelvic health issues within treatment and offer comprehensive care to those whose lives are negatively impacted.

Outside of work, her time is split between working in her vegetable garden and spending time at the gym. Julie can often be found at Cole Harbour Place going to bootcamp, playing squash with her husband, or improving her swimming! For mental health she loves running outside and going for walks with her husband. One of the many reasons Julie loves to work at PROTx is she can walk back and forth to home and consequently spend more time just enjoying being outside.

Originally from Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia, Julie graduated from Dalhousie University in 2017 with a Master of Science Degree in Physiotherapy. Prior to completing her physiotherapy degree, she originally pursued a career in engineering and has her Bachelor of Science and Master of Applied Science degrees in Civil Engineering.

Julie has continued her education with the following postgraduate courses: Level 1 Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy, Smart Seminar’s Certification in Biomedical Dry Needling, Shirley Sahrmann’s Intro to Movement System Impairment Syndromes of the Lumbar Spine, Hip and Shoulder, and Smart Seminar’s Thoracic Manipulative Therapy.
